Review on ๐Ÿฐ Ravensburger Castles of Burgundy Dice Strategy Game by Jeremy Hong

Revainrating 5 out of 5

At first glance, nothing about this game appeals to me

A quick overview of what you get with this game: - cheap cardboard components with shiny skinny mats for skinny players, he's hungry - two-tone sixes - Side dice are a central part of the game and are used to determine your possible actions with your flip salad, so serious it's a virtual dotted salad bar - awkward to set up and difficult to put away. So I accidentally gave five stars? no The Castles of Burgundy is one of my absolute favorite games. I'm always ready to play this game. It doesn't meet any of my more predictable metrics for a board game I love, but it excels at what a game is ultimately about - gameplay. Everything about this game is so perfectly polished that I'll forgive it for not having a specific theme, for having "goods tiles" that aren't even described in any detail other than the number of dice you have to roll to get them to sell. to focus on dice rolls. The game is simple in strategy but as a tactical game it's the best I've ever played. Due to the under-produced production, many decisions have to be made at each stage. There are fifty decisions in total in the game, with two dice rolls in each round, five rounds in each phase (the stages are not named thematically but are called A, B, C, D, E) - and the goal is to make these decisions optimize. Fill your estate with tiles that have themed names but are really nothing more than earning points here and there. You can use the dice to take the tiles offered on the main board that match your rolled number. You can play tiles with dice equal to the number of dice on your player board. You can sell goods with dice. And you can use one dice to create two workers (which can change the number of any dice). If you have silver (rare money in this game) you can also buy it in the market in the middle of the game board. And that's it. But it's so much fun. Indeed have fun. And with how many possible things each tile has once been added to your homestead, how the game stacks up and the paths to victory can be almost limitless. All the different types of tiles can do so many different things, but it's never overwhelming trying to figure out what they all do or crippling trying to find the perfect use for them. There is no linear order in which you must perform your actions each turn. The rules are strict, but they are not restrictive. This game has everything I hate about games, but it makes up for EVERYTHING with its gameplay design and brilliance. Every board game lover should have this name, even if they don't usually like European games. Spot salad with all the toppings.
