This device easily connects a modern smartphone to your stereo system via Bluetooth, allowing you to combine the convenience of a smartphone with high-quality music playback on a stereo system. Unlike most budget Bluetooth adapters, this one uses a separate D/A converter chip to provide audiophile-grade audio output to analog RCA jacks. I find that the Texas Instruments (formerly Burr Brown) PCM5102A good and natural sounding PCM5102A is key to the good sound quality of this unit: proper bass, great treble and a natural sounding music that is unlikely to be found in most bluetooth devices . I doubt that offerings from Arcam or Audioengine*s (the latter probably impacted the looks of this unit) at more than twice the price have any real sonic benefits, and I think a Texas Instruments DAC is the best choice in that regard is. price range. If you want more, unlike its more expensive siblings, this adapter offers an optical and electrical digital output, so you can use a separate DAC box or connect to an AV receiver's digital input (and all outputs work simultaneously). Aside from the good sound and nice-looking metal body that shields better than a cheap plastic one, this adapter is also easy to use and has a long range (but don't expect too much from Bluetooth, which is built for short ranges). It supports the latest Bluetooth 5.0 and the noise-saving Apt-X/AAC transmission standard, which avoids re-encoding already compressed music. I don't know of a more complete Bluetooth adapter. Given the pleasing sound that's almost indistinguishable from an uncompressed CD, I think this is the maximum possible within the bandwidth-limited Bluetooth standard. You will definitely hear a difference with a half price adapter, but I doubt you will have any regrets when you compare this product to others that cost more than double the price!
