Review on πŸ’œ Vibrant Royal Purple with Rit DyeMore Liquid Dye: Transform Your Fabrics! by Amy Mcleod

This thing is STRONG! You need stainless steel tools and a lot of patience!

I had a fleece shirt (94% polyester, 6% elastane) that was too boring for me. When I dyed it Super Pink I was expecting a dusty pink/purple color which I got. As the label on the bottle promised, the white label has turned a little pink. (see pictures). I had to watch the process on the stove and hold the shirt in the water with tongs, which ensured an even color. This color lasts VERY long and after countless rinses in the stainless steel sink the water is (almost) clear. I lost patience and threw it in the washing machine along with an old white towel. And again with another white towel. Once again. Another third towel was stained (last photo)! The shirt also shrunk a bit. So note that you never wash the product at the temperature required for dyeing (close to boiling), otherwise it may shrink. Also, be sure to wear gloves. Although they have never been in contact with HOT dye water, they have become stained (nitrile gloves, see picture). I don't want it on my hands. They require a lot of time, patience, water and electricity. I spent way more on paint etc than I did on a shirt lol.

Pros
  • Due to the difficulty of dyeing synthetic fabrics, this dye must be used in a stainless steel pot on the stove to keep the water hot while dyeing. Machine washable
Cons
  • Very expensive
