I have a consumer electronics lab that has several soldering irons etc which can be dangerous if accidentally left on. My plan is to install this light behind the door and plug into the same outlet and only plug in vulnerable tools. Then I can see immediately from the outside that my irons are on. I'm going to use a small transformer to drop the 120v down to 12v so the wiring doesn't conform to electrical codes. 12V is considered low voltage, so almost anything is possible.
