Completely flat. All details are made of wood. There are two tiny metal cups for food and water. There is a bag of screws and a Phillips screwdriver. It was relatively easy to assemble. BUT there are NO directions. Zero Zip Nadda. You can go back to the ads page and TRY to follow the tiny printed direction (even after zooming in by hovering over the chart). The parts you are working with are NOT labeled, although the diagram suggests they can be labeled. It's really just a good kit, but I'm still very disappointed that they couldn't include a proper set of instructions with the kit. The metal shell is VERY thin. just the other side of the tinfoil - seriously. And it was dented in several places. Eh
