I use this as a fun slow eater for my four mini donkeys. I hang it on the beams in the barn and they love using it. That and a pillow of hay feed my donkeys well and help me slide over the clumsy border. Since the mini donkeys' hooves could be pushed through the holes, I only let them play with them on the floor under supervision. The horse will not have this problem. The ball is made of very thick, durable plastic and is easy to fill. I have hay flakes in there. We found that if we overcrowded it, the donkeys would have a hard time pulling out the hay. It's expensive but it's a great addition to my shed and I would buy again anytime.
