Review on HVAC Blower Motor Resistor for Grand Cherokee WJ 4.0L L6 4.7L V8 1999-2004 with ATC Part# RU-358 by Darrion Hudson

And then came the air conditioning!

After watching my buddy try to come up with five different (horrible) solutions to fix his mother's air conditioning in her 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and an order for the wrong one Part, he said: I was right, I stepped in and ordered this part. This is a direct replacement and fits perfectly. However, I had to travel to our local Napa and also purchase a #973-304 Dorman Blower Motor Speed Resistor Wiring Harness Pigtail. I had to buy a plug after doing a bit of google research. I found that the resistors on these jeeps get a certain age and just get hot until they reach the point where they actually overheat and melt the black resistor bank (check). and/or its contents and wiring. My friend's mom melted the circuit board in the box AND the 3 wire connector that went into the box beyond repair. A little extra information that may save you a headache when researching. When you receive the Dorman connector, it comes unassembled and with too many wires, which may confuse you. Before you begin, make sure you have assembled some good quality electrical heat shrink butt connectors and a piece of heat shrink tubing wide enough to enclose all 3 wires and butt connectors. Electrical tape was used in front of her dashboard, and the high temperature of the wires turned it into a sticky, sticky nightmare. IMPORTANT: Before you cut off the old 3-wire connector under the dash, note which colored wire goes into which connector position when it snaps into place. Black goes to what I would call the outside of the box, the center is brown. /yellow and the red wire goes to what I would call the inside (middle of the box when it snaps into place). As soon as you notice the ruler, cut the connector off, leaving a decent length still attached to the car and leaving all three wires the same length. Now the wiring colors in the replacement kit are blue and green. Why? I have no earthly idea. Use two green wires (they are thicker) and connect one to the black wire and the other to the red wire with shrink connectors. Then connect the blue wire to the brown/yellow one using the same procedure. Once all three wires are connected, place heat shrink tubing over all three wires, but don't crimp it yet so you can easily verify that the correct color wire fits into the correct slot in the connector. Insert the small gold pins into the correct connector slot and after all three are in place and you are sure they fit together correctly as before, press down on the small retaining clip on the back. Go ahead and gently heat the heat shrink tubing around the three butt connectors. and this is the packaging. plug it into the black box you just installed, connect the new 2-wire connector to the blower, done! I would have photographed everything if I had thought of it beforehand. But hopefully this will help save someone from the nightmare we were going through. Hooray! I think it would also be helpful to tell you why the wrong part was ordered in the first place. The reason for ordering the wrong part previously was that they didn't sell a replacement part that had both 2-wire and 3-wire connections. with this. So before I got involved in the project my buddy looked at the search results on amazon and told me which part to order and he was concerned about the 3 wires because that was blown so he chose the only part the 3 wires had in the kit.

Pros
  • Engine Cooling and Air Conditioning
Cons
  • Almost Everything is Here
