Review on πŸ”Š Coby CX-CD375 High-Quality Micro Stereo System with Convenient Top-Loading CD Player - Discontinued by Manufacturer by Holly Hernandez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Inexpensive, mediocre product

I bought this spontaneously from a large department store just after Christmas, supposedly with a 50% discount. The retail price turned out to be a few dollars more than the regular Revain price. Can't say I regret the purchase as my needs are pretty minimal, although for another $20 or $30 I could get a much better equipped player. Contrary to the other reviewers, I don't think the sound quality is bad (for a cheap player). Unfortunately, the manual is written in a stereotypically poor Chinese-English translation and doesn't provide any instructions on how to connect speakers. The ends of the speaker wires are bare wires with no connectors, so you can't tell which wire is positive and which wire is negative in each pair. I seem to remember when hooking up an old radio that the wire with the stripe is positive, so I hooked up the speakers to this unit. If the sound quality is not good for you, you can try to check how the speakers are connected. The radio/CD selection is controlled only by the switch on the top of the unit, not by the remote control. So when the switch is in the radio position, the remote control can only turn the device on or off. When the switch is set to CD, the remote control allows full control of the CD player. I'm annoyed that I can't switch between CD and radio or tune the radio with the remote control. If I had known that before buying the device, I would not have bought it. I don't use it enough so it's a big problem. If you can't afford more, I would suggest spending the extra $30 so you get a machine that can record up to 3 CDs and a remote control that controls all of the machine's functions.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
