I hope I never need it.
Hope I never need it as a lightning protection device. However, this is a wise precaution when working with outdoor antennas. The key is to attach a ground wire to the case that will conduct the electrons to ground. If lightning strikes I doubt it will survive, but more importantly it protects everything downstream of the antenna.
