I have a headless computer running Ubuntu 18.04 that I need on access the desktop remotely. The problem is that when I turn off and restart the monitor, the remote display has a very low resolution. I've used the forced resolution dummy display method in the past, but if I've ever had a problem and really needed to connect a monitor, the real display was just blank. Get into this great plug/display emulator. Now I leave one of those little adapters plugged in and everything works the same as if I had an active monitor plugged in, and if I run into problems and it should be necessary I can just replace that dongle with a real HDMI monitor port and my display is there in order. . Super simple solution! I've used the other 2 in this 3 pack on some headless machines that force a VGA connection when no HDMI is connected at boot.
