I have purchased two Amprobe NCV-1040 testers and have been using them for a few months now. They work reliably and the dual voltage feature is handy when working with low voltage control transformers. The tester has a built in flashlight which is not as bright but I still find it useful in dark work areas. The tester has both a flashing red indicator light and an audible signal. The red LED flashes once per second for standard 50-1000 VAC mode and twice per second for 12-50 VAC low voltage mode. It has a CAT IV 1000VAC/50-400Hz safety rating and a solenoid test that changes from red to amber in the presence of a magnetic field. I've noticed that the magnetic detector doesn't work with some small cube relays and solenoids, but it does with larger RBM relays and specialty contactors, so I'm assuming they must be under the ">2.5mT" rating listed in the datasheet. . This tester runs on two included AAA batteries and is dust and water resistant. They hold up to my regular daily use at work, so overall I'm happy with them.
