This is a 6 inch USB 2.0 device extender that I bought because one of my cables was too short, but I didn't want a ton of extra cable; it fitted that bill well. I'm sure a more common use is to connect devices like USB flash drives or larger devices that don't have a cable and can block nearby ports on some computers. connect to a computer) and the other is female (the end where you connect the device/cable). Most USB extension cables I've seen have the female end covered in plastic, but as you can see from the pictures of this cable, the female end is *not* covered so you only see the bare metal outer part be able. It was actually desirable to me and that was one of the reasons I chose this cable - it had to run inside my CordMate II and I couldn't find a suitable closed end. For this, it has proven itself well. If you're just extending the USB cable for normal purposes it shouldn't matter, although you might want to get a *closed* one as it's less prone to damage. I actually had to return the first one I received to Revain for a replacement as the female end was slightly broken and damaged. One final note: as of this writing, the Revain image is beige. My cable was actually black. I didn't care, but if it's important to you, keep it in mind. Overall I haven't had any issues with this cable so far (after replacing the damaged one of course) so I would recommend it if you need a 6" USB extension cable. Of course, there are longer ones if you need them (remember the maximum length limitations: around 10-16 feet from device to port if you're not using active repeaters or hubs), but this one works great for what it is.
