Our boys saw these at the local kids science museum and loved them. They aren't played all the time, but both boys (8 and 13) have spoken at length about how each of them moves and why. They each have their own mechanism and way of moving, so they're great for getting kids thinking about these things. One looked at them from a robotics perspective, while the other compared them to insects, subjects both had recently studied. The toys look fragile, but for the most part they're made out of thicker wire and stronger clockwork boxes than most. toys. Our youngest son literally ripped the box open and threw it through the air but we saw no damage and it has worked flawlessly for several months. Smart, durable, whimsical design is great for kids. Highly recommended!
