Review on ๐ŸŽฎ ASTRO Gaming A20 Wireless Headset: Xbox One, PC & Mac โ€“ Black/Green | Ultimate Gaming Audio Experience by Milagros Iser

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Two headsets were replaced and stopped working within two months. DO NOT BUY.

UPDATE (February 17, 2018): DO NOT BUY THESE HEADSETS. Once again, these headsets mysteriously stopped working out of the blue after being used just 30 minutes before work started. This is the second time and I can no longer send them back through Revain for a replacement. I do not recommend these headphones to anyone. Please do not buy. UPDATE (January 5, 2018): After my initial purchase a month ago, the headsets have mysteriously stopped working. I used them the night before and when I woke up they wouldn't turn on. I've tried a hard reset, factory reset, firmware update, charging, etc. Headphones wouldn't turn on. I immediately sent them back to Revain and thankfully received a free replacement the very next day. I'll look into other headsets as soon as possible though. Unfortunately, it comes so close to an amazing headset. If there is an update to the ASTRO A20 line in the future I will consider buying it back. -- ORIGINAL REVIEW:**************************** **I purchased this after reading up on my previous purchase of the Turtle Beach Stealth disappointed was 700. Overall I would say the ASTRO A20 is a little better, but not by much. If you're looking for true wireless and love the ability to customize the EQ, buy these headsets. But get tired of the trouble. To learn more, read on. Sound: ----------- The sound quality is excellent. The Virtual Surround software works surprisingly well; so good that I see no reason to spend the extra cash on a true surround sound headset. The fact that you can adjust the EQ and microphone noise reduction using the ASTRO Command Center desktop app is amazing. The Control Center lets you create your own EQ presets, each containing an adjustable 5-band EQ. Advanced users can go into detail and adjust the center frequency, dB level and bandwidth for each band. Only 3 presets can be saved on the headset at a time, but you can save as many as you like in the ASTRO Command Center App. Headset manufacturers had it. Ease of use: ----------- The mute function is just wonderful. It's been a long time since I've talked, only to find my mic was on mute the entire time. The headset features a master volume control and play/voice balance buttons (as opposed to two separate wheels for play and voice as seen on Turtle Beach headsets). The only way to know where the credit is set is by 1 of 3 signals: at 100% credit play 0% votes, at 50% play 50% votes and at 0% play 100% votes. I found I was always adjusting the balance and was never satisfied with the level of play and voice. I didn't find it user friendly and would have preferred 2 separate wheels. Comfort: ----------- I can't wear them for a long time without my head hurting. I found the pillow a poor choice for the Astro. Also, the earcups don't fold down when resting on the shoulders like Turtle Beach headsets do. It's not a big deal, but I really miss this feature on my Turtle Beach headsets and wish they were on my Astro headsets. Problems: ------------ There are two main problems I keep encountering with the headset: 1) The headset stays on while charging and stays on after charging is complete. That worries me. Since most users just leave their headset plugged in and charging when not in use, this means that if you haven't used your headset for days, it stays plugged in and charged, your headset stays on all the time. I'm concerned that this will cause wear and tear on the headset's components, thereby increasing the life of the headset. 2) I have constant problems with the microphone not working (I don't know if this is due to a power issue or not). What will happen is the Xbox One will not recognize that I have a microphone and therefore will not record any sound. So I have to turn off my headset, turn the base on and back on (either by unplugging it and plugging it back in, or switching it to PC mode and then back to Xbox mode), then plugging my headset back in and then making sure that my microphone is working again. This usually only happens when you first turn on your Xbox or headset. I have no problem using them afterwards. However, this is a major inconvenience and a problem big enough that if this issue isn't fixed in a software update soon, I might consider returning the headset. ------------ Overall: --- -------- Overall, I would definitely recommend these headsets if you are looking for true wireless and if you want to fully explore your EQ want to customize. I will keep these headphones. However, I will also be on the lookout for other headsets that may come along.
