Hamilton Beach is a well-known brand that's built to last, and with good reason. They produce a variety of household goods at affordable prices. We have Hamilton Beach cookware that has been around for years, so why not try the iron? And so far it's been GREAT. I don't expect much from an iron; its functions are quite simple - it smoothes out creases in the fabric and adds steam when they are more difficult to manage. This iron does it. And he does it well. For me, this iron is slightly larger so it covers a larger area which makes ironing faster. It comes with a 10ft cord, giving you plenty of room from the wall to your ironing board to work without restrictions. There's also an added safety feature in the form of an auto-shutoff feature in case you forget to turn it off when you're done - and I did. If it falls and doesn't feel any activity, it will turn off after 1 minute. If you leave it upright, it will turn off within 30 minutes. However, if you want to continue ironing after these time limits, all you have to do is move the iron and it will turn on again. However, ALWAYS try to unplug the iron when you are done. In general the iron is excellent. And if you're looking for a nice housewarming gift, an iron always comes in handy.
