Good phone, difficult directions

This is a very good phone with good reception, sound, battery life, features etc. I recommend it. I won't go into all the positives as this entire review is intended to point out a few cons and I want to keep it simple. There are already many very good detailed reviews that talk about all the pros, so there is no point in repeating them. There are two minuses, and I want to get to know them before buying a phone and not read this information in the reviews. CONS: 1. First, there is no beep to let you know you have messages, which I think is standard on all autoresponders these days. But you can program phones to blink a little light when there are unread messages via a code system, so that's not too bad.2. This is my biggest scam and I can't understand why phones have to be so complicated. You need a small college course to learn everything. There are 47 pages of detailed instructions on how to use all the features. You should be able to navigate to a feature using an intuitive menu and you don't need to search through everything in the book. An example I was NOT able to find in the guide is that if someone calls you but doesn't leave a message, the words "Missed call" appear on the phone display. There's no easy way to remove this, so basically your phone keeps saying "Missed call" and you'll always wonder if it was an old call or a new call. Here is a 9+ step solution to remove it from your display: a. Press the menu button b. Press the "#"c key. Find the code in the book (it's 213) d. Enter "213". Press Scroll list f. Find the phone number to delete. Click on the "Delete" button. Scroll to Yes i. Press Select j. If you've received 10 calls now, do it 9 more times3. There are two pages of codes that you can use to program. I doubt you'll remember them, so you'll need to keep the owner's manual for future reference. Even at 47 pages, not all the information is in the manual, or at least easy to find (e.g. #2 above). You have to "google" different things to find out what to do.5. The cable on the base station is too short, you may need a longer one.6. Edit: I just read that another reviewer mentioned that the numbers/letters printed on the phone are hard to read. That's right! I have pretty good eyesight but I have a hard time understanding words on my phone. An example is that it is VERY hard to see the word "DELETE" on a shiny chrome background (you need this button to delete messages). It probably depends on how this phone shines for viewing comfort.
