How, you ask, can headphones ruin a computer sound system? Well, the little metal tab on the plug (the notched part) broke off when the plug was inserted into my computer's headphone jack. Once I pulled the fork out and the tip got stuck there. My computer, of course, assumed I still had my headphones plugged in, so it refused to play any sound from the external speakers. Replacing computer connectors would cost more than the computer is worth. After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally managed to use superglue to remove the broken piece at the end of a bent paper clip. The excess glue ruined the socket, but at least I can get external sound now. Because of this I now have to use a USB headset so my high quality sound card is wasted if I want to use a headset. Obviously Plantronics trimmed every possible corner with the cheapest components available in the making of this headset. Stay away.
