I have been a user of Bunn Automatic for many years. I've had the A10A on my counter for over 10 years and the poor thing is finally dead. Our household has also reduced coffee consumption, so buying a coffee maker that keeps hot water at all times doesn't seem like an economical choice. I looked at many different breweries but was impressed with the Braun's looks, features and reviews. I used to have Braun coffee makers and found them to be very durable. First, this device looks great. It takes up minimal counter space but is designed to keep all essential items easily accessible and washable. The water tank is located on the side and front of the unit, so you can easily add water without making a mess. Add to that the reservoir lifts off the tap for easy filling and won't drip/leak when you put it back in the system and you have a winner. Braun still uses the #4 cone filter, which is slightly more expensive than the stock filters. I find the design to allow for optimal recovery from grinding. The filter basket slides out for easy cleaning and has a spring-loaded lid at the bottom to prevent water from escaping the coffee maker. The carafe looks beautiful and pours easily without spilling or messing up. The handle is solid and feels good in the hand. The shape of the carafe leaves a relatively small opening at the top, so cleaning the carafe by hand is out of the question. Use a bottle brush or sponge. The base has a heating plate that keeps the coffee hot for 2 hours after brewing and then shuts off. There is no way to manually extend this cycle. it is fully automated. A red light on the front of the unit lets you know when the heater is on. The control buttons require the lightest touch to activate. It's easy to brew. Turn the dial to select the size you want to brew, from 1 cup to a full carafe, press the power button and press the brew strength button to start the cycle. There are 4 options for the strength of the drink. About ice, light, gold and fat. Since we tend to love coffee more than most, we use the Gold or Bold cycle to get the best flavor out of our coffee. Although I haven't used it to make a mug yet, this device is capable of that and has a crease. - the lowest shelf where you can place the cup during the brewing process. If you select a size less than half the pot, the hotplate will not turn on. Brewing is fast and quiet. At the end of the brewing process, the coffee maker will beep three times to let you know it's done. If you're in a hurry, there's also a manually activated control that will hold the coffee while you pour your cup. use it with no problem. It's more expensive than other options, but I firmly believe that in most cases you get what you pay for. I definitely recommend it.
