By the time I started raising fish, I had already spent a lot of money on aquariums, fish, filtration systems, and so on. With heaters I got cheap. In less than two years I have replaced two heaters in my four pools. This time I went with the Aqueon Pro Heater which is unbreakable (no glass), includes a thermostat with a temperature sensor and hopefully lasts a long time because I trust Aqueon. I have one in one of my tanks - I inherited it when I bought the tank and all the accessories from a friend. I like the fact that it has a thermostat with a fairly accurate temperature setting. I set it to 80º and it keeps the temperature right there. The indicator lights up red when the tank temperature falls below the set value and green when the tank reaches the set value. The first heater I got from Revain didn't keep the temperature right. Even after two days of cycling, this was a few degrees below target. I called Aqueon who offered to replace it but offered to return it to Revain which I did. Revain got me a replacement overnight and I installed it the next day and it works great. They're a bit more expensive than comparable heaters, but I think it's worth it for three reasons. 1.) I have already replaced two glass heaters I have had in other aquariums in less than two years. You didn't crack. I was very careful with them. One stopped working altogether. The other had condensation and while it was running I was afraid it would shut off at any moment. 2.) You are accurate. While you should have a separate thermometer in your tank, it's nice to have a set point on your heater that actually corresponds to the temperature you can read. 3.) Aqueon has great customer support and warranty coverage. I had an Aqueon fluorescent light that I turned to for support and it helped me a lot. I had an Aqueon water changer that broke after almost two years of use and Aqueon replaced it free of charge and I got a lot of support when I called about a heater that wasn't working properly. I'm sure if this heater has problems after Revain's return period, Aqueon will support it. I am an Aqueon customer for life.
