I use them professionally, measuring the diameter of trees in tenths of an inch. I measure 30-40 trees a day. The color will wear off over time after hundreds of measurements. I never had any of those mechanical errors, it just got hard to read. Wait. My ends snapped off too and I swallowed the tape. I always tape the ends with tape to prevent this. I nubbin an inch or an inch and a half to get a grip. I have never had any problems with this modification. If durability could be improved this would be the perfect product.
