I originally bought these to make some necklaces using a ceramic striker. Everything I've done works very well, you just have to put in some effort. Tried dryer lint and it immediately caught fire. They really need to be close to your stuff as they don't give off as much spark as a big rod. After hearing from someone who managed to lose their iron bar at the wrong time, I figured it would be excellent to add laces to the bottom of the shoe as you are unlikely to lose the shoe. On any shoe or boot, just in case.
