Read other reviews carefully. I didn't do my homework well enough and it's going to cost me money. Maryland passed a law requiring a 10-year lifespan for fire alarms. I have replaced my perfectly good Walmart branded products (which had their batteries changed annually) with these. They cost three times more than the Walmart brand. But they last 10 years, right? NO. Read the fine print. The detector should last 10 years (like any detector in my experience). It came with a battery. The battery is the same 9 volt battery I've always used. sooo I paid three times more for a product I didn't need. And this item is smaller than my original smoke alarm which is why there are holes in the drywall of my ceiling. Bottom line, if you want a smoke alarm to last 10 years under your state law, IT IS NOT.
