Review on Dremel 90930 05 Carbon Brush Motor by Jeff Payne

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Perfect fit for Dremel 3000 but didn't solve my problem

Just to confirm these are the correct brushes for Dremel 3000 and fit perfectly. However, the replacement did not solve my problem (the motor sometimes turned on when the device was shaken). Cleaning the area on the motor where the brushes met didn't fix the problem either. The problem turned out to be that the four pins coming out of the other motor housing (name not sure, it plugs into the switch assembly) weren't making good contact. I figured this out by playing around with the switch placement and this case and was able to find that sometimes it would work. To fix this I cut away the plastic exposing the metal brackets underneath. Then I shortened the pins on the switch a bit and when reassembling I soldered all four pins to their terminals. As a result, the switch assembly and outer motor housing are now one piece so I don't have to worry about them falling apart. It's not very pretty, but definitely better than a broken Dremel. I should also mention that I had to manually connect one end of the copper wire to the terminal with 28 gauge stranded wire; Not sure if it got lost from the start or if it was because I messed it up by cutting off the plastic to reveal the clips. However, there is enough room, so I just tinned my wire, routed it to the copper end and soldered it, then wrapped it around and soldered it where I previously soldered the switch contact. If you are working before assembling, you can use a multimeter with ohms to make sure you are getting about 8 ohms across two spaced pairs of pins.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some errors
