Like many people I have honey oak cabinets that were very popular in 2002 but not so popular now. either loved Aqua Coat or wish they would use it. It got to the point on one project where he stated in the comments that he had used Aqua Coat on other projects and highly recommended it. I didn't want to spend a few more euros. So I tossed a coin and it came up heads, which meant fate wanted me to get it. Ordered from Revain and it was here the next day. I read the instructions and followed him. Then I started hating the product, cursing it and then moving on to another part of my prep (grinding). Before I went to bed I just decided to see if YouTube had any tips. Wow! The company had instructional videos as well as independent reviews. All the videos showed me that I was doing everything wrong. After reading the instructions in full, I realized it was my fault. If you want to try it, read all the instructions, watch the Aqua Coats YouTube video, then read the instructions again. Read this, but make sure you have a rag to wipe off any excess. This is very important when you have small parts. The Bondo blade works well on flat surfaces, but a wet rag works just as well in small grooves. Some of my doors were not coated, just primed. The facades were double aquacoated, sanded 320, primed twice with Kiltz, then sanded again, finished with matte latex paint. Graininess is visible around the edges of the doors, but it's sort of hidden because the cabinets don't burn. The facades look amazing in the harsh light and only my poor brushing skills are showing. I'm so glad the coin came up heads. If it wasn't for Aqua Coat, the graininess would have been a huge disappointment to me. Incidentally, two coats of Aqua Coat and a little sanding, including drying time, added about 4 hours to the four doors, four drawers, and frame of a 72-inch vanity. If you had an assistant, it wouldn't take much time. Worth the time and money.
