I am an avid hiker, camper and nature hiker and I mostly make these trips to California/Utah/Arizona where it can get quite hot. For a long time I always dipped my hat in cold streams or lakes to cool off for a moment, and that also meant dripping water on my shirt to cool it down even more. However, this relief usually wore off 30 minutes after the hat had dried completely in the sun. One day, I can't remember how, a Chill Pal towel caught my eye. The overwhelming amount of positive feedback piqued my interest even more, especially at a time when my young son had a temperature of 100F the night before. Thought I'd try one of these not only to cool down but also to use as a camping towel. I liked it so much that I bought 3 of these mesh towels and 1 PVA. However, this BirdRock towel is made of the same material and can be used not only for cooling the whole body but also for drying after swimming. BENEFITS - Keeps the whole body cool making hot weather very tolerable - Stays hydrated for over an hour (and has a cooling effect) - Doesn't feel wet - Comes with a carrying pouch but no carabiner to attach to a backpack. The size is perfect: it fits me well at 5ft 7in tall. like microfiber towels, easy to fold - Quickly absorbs water for quick drying, and can be spun for quick drying of the towel itself. CONS - Holds less water than a PVA cooling towel. Wear around body USE TO DRY - wring out water and let dry - wipe dry - wring out water and hang to dry. Overall, the towel does a VERY good job of both cooling and drying. The fact that it can be easily folded and stored away during a wilderness hike makes it better than a PVA cooling towel (which is like a car washcloth and harder to fold once dry. I wouldn't fold and store it while it's still damp as it may harbor bacteria/mold). I am absolutely satisfied with the towel.
