Review on UFQ L2 Hi Lite Headset Compare Communication by Ryan Bennett

If I didn't know better, I might be happy.

I have had the Clarity Aloft (CA) headset for over 10 years and love it. While it still works, much of the wiring's protective coating has been damaged through years of being stuck in the seat tracks and normal use. I didn't want to spend money on the exchange and read reviews about the UFQ ANR2. For the price I decided to give it a try. I fly a Challenger 650 aircraft. For the money this headset is ok and will probably be great for those exercising. I found the frame too complex for my large head. I could probably keep working on it, but it wouldn't solve the biggest problem I was having. Both the Clarity Aloft and Faro use "Comply Canal Tips" to fit your ears. These earbuds have a much smaller opening for attaching to headphones, but are also 50% longer and more secure once attached. This means they go much deeper into your ear canal like a traditional earplug and block most outside noise. I could not find a replacement of this length for this headset. As such, I felt it wasn't as effective at blocking out external noise. I had a hard time getting the right fit for these headsets and the earcup itself was bulky and damaged during a work day. As soon as you turn on the ANR function, you will immediately hear how the outside noise fades away. While nice, I found that I then had to hear a constant static background hiss coming from the ANR system. As long as it's not loud, it's constant. On a quieter plane like this, you have to listen to it all the time. Without batteries, the CA headset is quiet thanks to the best headphones and does not need an ANR system. Another issue I noticed with this headset has to do with the aux input. While I'm not the type to plug in and listen to music or need to plug my phone in flight for whatever reason, I tested the feature to give an honest review. If you plug anything into the AUX port (supplied Bluetooth adapter or cable), the volume will be reduced immediately. To make matters worse, when plugging in the AUX my SIC had a hard time hearing me and the ATC had the same issue. The only way to solve this is to turn it off. It may be related to avionics but not my CA. I have used this headset for 15 flight days and over 50 hours. I sent the headset back and received the Faro in-ear headset today. Although I haven't used it yet, I've already molded it and found it to be very similar in form and function to the CA headset I also use. Headset. Well, a month later with FARO in-ear headphones. I liked the feel and comfort more. It was much easier for me to shape and adjust my head. However, I had to send it back. I've used it teaching sims and it's been amazing, but in a Challenger 650 with a hot mic system, neither the dispatcher nor any other member of my team could hear/understand me unless I held the mic that close that it touched my lips (it won't stay in that position). FARO can say what they want it's an internal VOX setup on the audio panel, I put my old worn Clarity Aloft in and they still work great. I guess I'll just send them in to have the cable replaced (it snagged on the seat rail and severely tore the outer cover, my fault) or go for a bullet and buy a new pair. They will replace the cable for (I think they said) $140 or give me $150 in exchange for a new one. If FARO had worked with a hot mic system, I would have kept it. My advice to seekers. Buy a FARO, if it works with your plane you'll love it, if not, return it and get a Clarity Aloft.
