Great compass for the price

I'm a geologist and I have a Brunton International Pocket Transit (Cost me almost $500). Brunton is the standard by which other geological compasses are measured. But I wanted to test out cheaper compasses for use in the geology classes I teach. The Harbin Compass is a very good Brunton copy for about a tenth the price. I tested it on the basic steps (declination, bump and fall adjustment, bearing, etc.) and was suitably impressed. It works and feels very similar to my Brunton. It has a solid composite body and the pointer, inclinometer and damping pin work very well. The compass and inclinometer levels aren't as well made as on my Brunton, but they work and seem reasonably accurate. The included case is quite cheap, but good considering the price. The user manual isn't that helpful for English speakers, but you can go to Brunton's website and download the free PDF version of the user manual for their Geo Transit and you'll be fine. I highly recommend this as a functional geological transit for the field.
