Strong magnets! Smooth surfaces protect wall coverings. It's just very well made, the perfect tool for installing short sections behind drywall. I love that there are two sizes of wall mount puller - with the small one I just drilled a 5/8 hole in the back box and it still slid properly. Grabbed it from another room (alone) and dragged it 12 feet to my new outlet. The included pull rope is incredibly strong and tear resistant. By the way, I can't test the product myself, but it was shipped direct from China - no indication of this when purchasing and it caused a significant delay. There was tracking though, so once it shipped I at least knew where it was headed.
