The device works well. There's no difference in image quality going through the device or direct, which is good. I would recommend buying the device if you need 2 extra HDMI ports. When using the device, my A/V receiver immediately recognized that something was there and sent a signal to the TV. There used to be lag and I had to either unplug HDMI and then plug it back in or cycle devices on and off. I'm not sure why a remote control is needed unless someone is using 3 HDMI devices at the same time and needs to switch them. When I'm watching or listening to something, I usually scroll to the end before moving on to something else. I think if you're the type of person who switches TV channels, the remote control might come in handy. I had some problems with it: 1). The instructions are short. Nowhere does it say you need an external power supply. It comes with a USB cable that is not listed or pictured in the instructions and it does NOT come with a power adapter. In addition, the specifications of the device differ from those on Revain's website. Although I consider myself tech savvy, it took me a little more than what the instructions said.2). It was difficult to get support for the device. The email address provided for support was NOT working and I had to contact them through Revain. They responded quickly but communication was difficult to understand as their primary language was not American English which I speak and is spoken by most people in the US. They said they fixed the issue with email support but I didn't have to try contacting them again so I don't know for sure.
