Review on 🚰 InSinkErator HOT150: Sleek Satin Nickel Design for Effortless Hot Water Dispensing by Adam Taylor

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Another bad design for InSinkErator. A leaking pipe under the sink.

This is the third InSinkErator hot water system I've had to replace in five years. The first had a broken handle. The second just over a year ago was the HOT100 (very similar to this one) and the push button switch got stuck and we couldn't unlatch it to turn off the hot running water. The tank was still in good condition so we decided to take a chance and bought this new twist grip model to replace the HOT100 as we could still keep the old tank installed and use it. It was a mistake to trust InSinkErator for the third time. We changed and replaced the faucets fairly quickly and then turned on the water. In fact, water starts spurting out of the small hole under the sink where the copper pipe is welded to the blue PVC pipe. I had to remove the faucet to see that the FACTORY WELDED copper joint had a small crack. Bad work. Not only that, I've compared this HOT150 design to the older HOT100 design and InSinkErator has tried to save two bucks on the product by using this crappy factory weld instead of the more reliable and secure twin copper compression fittings found on their old HOT100- model used. They effectively lowered their manufacturing costs, but then passed the increased risk of product failure onto the buyer. This model allows you to take risks. This is a great over the sink design. However, there is a risk under the sink. If you're lucky enough to get a good one that doesn't leak, make sure you never hit the trash can under the sink or anything else attached to the copper plumbing hanging under the back of the sink. They will likely crack the WEAK copper weld and potentially cause a new water leak. Oh, and plan for a possible short trip to the hardware store. The InSinkErator QC did not include the required copper compression fitting, so we plugged it straight in according to the box instructions.
