The four trays that are usually used to store chips in the case are not included in the set, but any player can use them to store game chips during the game. We bought this set for our son and daughter in law so we don't have to carry our set around every time we visit and feel like playing the game. Heavy, well-done, engraved markings to keep face from rubbing off over the life of the game. Clearly varnished with no stains or imperfections but I would be wary of paint durability. Looks the same as our set we received from Singapore but when I dunked our set in a bowl of mild liquid dish soap and water to wash off the sticky fingerprints the paint came off an engraving or two as I dried them wiped. To wash off greasy or sticky items, I would recommend gently patting them dry or letting them air dry in the dishwasher. The tile size is the "average" size in the sets. Packed tightly in a molded foam box in a sturdy cardboard box, the heavy item was safe to transport and less rattling, resulting in broken cubes or tiles. The set is vinyl over a bonded cardboard with strong snaps, but the set is heavy so I could see where the vinyl wears down over time and cracks at the seams. It's ok because we have a carpenter friend who makes beautiful cedar cases for all of his player friends' sets. He cuts a large wind or kite of his choice in the upper part, lines the trays and the inside of the case with felt; Each has a lockable accessory compartment for storing dice, a wind gauge and clean spare tiles. He will also make a special case for this set as it will be a Christmas present for our son. I really think this set would make a good gift with or without friends who make custom boxes, but what would anyone do for trays if they didn't have talented woodworking friends? The trays are part of the game accessories like the wind indicator. I suppose you could glue some of the craft boards together, but since the tiles fit snugly and snugly into the case as they are, it could be pushed even harder to engage the latches and close the case. A little weird.
