I sew and embroider. This rug is big enough for all of my projects that need ironing with whatever iron I need to use, from a mini iron to my full size iron. It works for docking and iron on stabilizer and everything in between. Free dryer balls included with the mat reduce drying time. Occasionally they end up in the crease zone because they're hidden in a garment that's taken out of the dryer, but this slight deterioration is more than compensated for by not using fabric softener and/or dryer sheets. A little white vinegar on the last rinse and desiccant balls keep my clothes soft.
