Most lenses have one aspect that really makes you think you need to do more research before buying. It was one of my easiest decisions as I read review after review praising its performance and was looking for exceptional performance regardless of the price. I am happy to say that I was blown away by this lens. From corner to corner, the sharpness is the best of any "wide angle" lens I've seen across the entire aperture range up to F8. While it's a fast lens and you'll often have to stop it in bright light, I haven't tested it past F8 and I doubt I'll ever go past F8. I have ND filters if it's too bright an object. Contrast and color give my photos a 3D effect. The sharpness of my 24 MP Sony camera is excellent and one of the most important qualities for a visually impressive photo. This is immediately apparent to the eye if there is softness anywhere in the photo, whether you notice it or not. We all perceive sharp photos as sharp images. It's a manual lens but I prefer them as I'm a landscape photographer so I don't need fast focus and always check focus even with autofocus lenses. Manual focusing isn't for everyone, especially those with limited vision. Most modern cameras have some sort of focus assist like focus preview or zoom, but if you're using manual mode don't be discouraged if you have trouble focusing in the first 20 or 30 shots - it takes practice, like almost anything. relax. Finally, the lens seems to be of good quality and the only thing that I think needs improvement that doesn't affect your shots at all is that the mount has some play from side to side. I'm not talking about rotational play, just the bracket being cut to a smaller circle than needed for a perfect fit. Sony lenses have about 0.5mm of play, which is twice as much. There is always a lot of talk about good copies and bad copies. I need a perfect copy, so check your lens for decentering right away and if you find any problems, send it back.
