Review on Enhance Your Pickup's Bed Space with AMP Research 74601-01A BedXTender HD Bracket Kit, Black by Sandro Pierce

Nice addition to a quick release kit (but not required)

Purchased with an AMP Bed X-Tender quick release hardware kit [.] for a 2003 Nissan Frontier. Check out my review on the subject if you're interested. Instead of going through the hassle and expense of finding and installing unsightly and poorly designed OEM mounts, opt for a mounting kit. Pros: Inexpensive, simple design, easy installation, specially designed for quick locking. Cons: drilling required, instructions could be better, bed lining makes installation difficult, minor flaw - brackets need to be installed correctly to work. Improper installation will result in unsightly extra holes and/or an improper fit. What makes this item desirable? They simplify the assembly of the quick release system; however, they are not required. Owners can install quick-release fasteners directly on the truck bed. The installer still has to drill holes, just in a different location. This item is useless without a quick release buckle and is not really needed. It only offers the user/owner the option to install interlocks. The goods arrived within the time specified by the supplier. The instructions consist of a page with labels and diagrams and a template for drilling holes in the edge of the bed (narrow lip to the tailgate). The instructions recommend not cutting the lining; However, I found it necessary to cut a 2" x 2" square out of the liner to ensure proper post-drilling installation per the template (which I believe was measured/designed for a car with no liner). Bed liner thickness and template dimensions must be added to avoid cutting grooves or drilling additional holes or slots. I was fine; However, those who want a super clean, professional look should consider this detail. The holes are drilled in a narrow lip on the rearmost and extreme left/right edge of the bed (opposite the rear door). Although not included in the instructions, it may be helpful for an installer, especially a layman, to remove the taillights before drilling. When drilling with shorter drill bits I found that the drill chuck was touching the plastic edge of the tail light. Again, I have a company truck, so it's none of my business. The instructions indicate where the screws should go, but it doesn't indicate the direction they should be installed. I found it easier to install the bolts holding the latch to the bracket with their heads facing towards the body (outside) of the truck (nuts and lockwashers inside). Once mounted, the mounts work great. The mounts themselves take up a lot less space than the stock mounts and look a lot cleaner.
