I have a Cocker Spaniel mix that is taller/leaner. I bought her a medium and it was a bit loose so I tried to adjust it but it never fit right. Although it was slightly larger in the neck/circumference, the chest strap was too short so it ended up chafing her armpits uncomfortably. I also tried a small one and while it fit the neck/girth better, it made the armpit/chest strap issue much worse. Ultimately, we had to switch to a harness that is also adjustable in the chest strap. I will say that for the price and cute style this is a good harness if your dog has a less sensitive coat/skin and a more predictable shape. We will keep him as a spare because he is very sweet but may not be suitable for Cocker Spaniels.
