These heaters are fine. They are warm but maybe not enough for very cold weather. I'm still trying this with different batteries as some types can generate more heat. One of the retractors only worked a few times, now it won't retract. I found that I had to use the full length of the cable and route it under my diaper cover to put the battery case in my pocket because the cable and retractor were too long to attach to my hiking boot. If you wear tall boots this may be fine. I used an adhesive backing to stick them on orthopedic shoes. This made them easy to transfer to another pair of boots and didn't slip in my shoes. I used tape to secure the wire under the orthotic insole so it comes out at the back of my heel. I felt more comfortable that way. I don't feel any wires when wearing it.
