My 8 month old had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck in a split second. It's short for easy untangling, but I removed the thread just in case. Now he's trying to shove the hammer down his throat as far as possible. So I think he'll play without a hammer until he outgrows the urge to choke on toys. It appears that the string can be replaced by removing the toy's base where it is bolted on and threading a new string through the hammer hole. It sounds very nice, not too loud, not hoarse and not out of tune. The fox hops up and down on wheels, making his somersaults look funny. Seems easy enough to clean or take apart if needed.
