Everything old becomes new again

Everything dies, baby, that's a fact. But everything that dies comes back one day. I'm buying records again. Too bad I got rid of my oversized collection a few years ago when I couldn't bear to lug around a few hundred records when it was clearly musical dinosaurs heading for the tech junkyard. I did not know it! Many purists claim that a vinyl record offers a more authentic sound compared to its digital cousin - and that may be true. But when I first saw the Crosley Dansette Portable Turntable, I thought it looked really cool and would be a nice retro piece that would complement my newfound love of mid-century decor. And fit, it does. It's basically an old portable turntable with legs, but it looks and plays great! Assembly was easy - just screw on the legs. I bought the black model but the green and red models look decent too. The player also comes with Bluetooth, so you can also play your digital music library through the speakers, which are good but not great (the system isn't high-end and doesn't try to be). The platter is manual so there's no auto shut off and play feature, but that's part of the fun. Another part of the fun is visiting the growing number of record stores on Saturday mornings to browse their vinyl collections and buy back some of the great old albums I donated to goodwill so many years ago and kept digitally on my CD. Phone. What artists and records am I buying - is there a reference to one of them in the title of my review?

Pros
  • Brings joy
Cons
  • Discontinued model
