That's a pretty simple concept. If you have an old monitor that only has a VGA connector (standard) and your new PC (or Raspberry Pi) only has HDMI as output, then this nice adapter fills the gap. You need a standard VGA cable with a connector. In my case, I have a Raspberry Pi and need access to a monitor (my monitor only has DVI and VGA inputs), but I'm also using a KVM switch that only has VGA. Entry. It's PERFECT for that. All I need is command line access to the Pi. I don't care about pretty graphics. For those who want to use this setup (switching from HDMI to VGA on a monitor), I'd point out that you're taking a nice, clear digital signal and converting it to an analog (VGA) signal, which reduces the quality. If possible, I'd recommend upgrading to a monitor with an HDMI input so you can take advantage of the purely digital signal your PC (or laptop) is putting out. Otherwise, it's almost like putting a VW Beetle engine in a Ferrari body. To make things even better, the product manufacturer has added an audio cable and a USB charging port in case you need extra power. What a nice touch! The signal looks good and works great with the KVM switch I'm using. Good product.
