These were a lot of fun for my 5 year old granddaughter who had broken her dominant arm. She enjoyed the colorful surprise that was underneath and we used a clip board to help her hold them in place. The black surface leaves small particles much like erasers do, so know that going in. It is not hard to sweep or vacuum up, and the activity was more than enough fun to justify it. We used a blunt tipped fork and some other items to make different patterns as well as the included wooden pieces. They are pointed and require adult supervision with any child prone to leave them laying around or prone to running off with them in hand. My granddaughter and I had hours of entertainment drawing different designs and the included stencils were a big plus.
