Review on MOKOSE HDMI Camera: High Definition 1080P 60FPS Digital Security ๐Ÿ“ท Camera with 3.2mm No Distortion HD Lens - Industry Grade Performance by Christopher Hicks

Small cheap clean HDMI output but impossible to focus. Use as a permanently installed camera!

I bought these to use with the Blackmagic ATEM Pro in the streaming app along with some smart clips. I was pretty much immediately struck by how good they are despite being so petite. These are good, sharp, bright cameras with good color reproduction. The screw attachment at the top and bottom offers additional creative attachment options. There's a complete electronic menu of configurations that I didn't even bother to look at. The downside is the included lens. It's actually a pretty good lens, but you underestimate its varifocality. They're so far from parfocal it's insane. Changing the zoom to ALL will completely lose focus. Then when you focus it seems to zoom out slightly. This makes it nearly impossible to frame a frame with any precision. In addition, the focus ring is SUPER sensitive. If you hit it, it will move and you will lose focus. However, the lens knobs are also their adjusting screws. So once you REALLY get the picture, you can gently block the lens so it can't move. Because of this, I think it's best to use fixed cameras. Remove them from talents, install them and hope never to touch them again. Do not use them in a portable installation. I would prefer pigtail cables over hard connectors as I think the HDMI connector will be a reliability issue in the long run. Protect them from torque as much as possible. The power cord is a bit shockingly thin and a bit short. Luckily, they seem to be pretty standard in terms of voltage and security camera pinouts, so you can modify the parts as needed. (Someone has to make some HDMI+Power-Hydra cables!) I don't think they'll replace a good DSLR or a dedicated video camera, but as a panoramic camera or wide-angle camera to fill the extra inputs I don't think they will can be beaten, especially not at their price.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
