This inexpensive device uses a real FTDI chip and I've had no problems using it on my computer. I opened the box and found that the board is well built and has plenty of spacing between the USB side and the RS-485 side so isolation shouldn't be an issue. Both the RS-485 and RS-232 ports have multiple surge suppressors and the TTL port can be switched between 5V and 3.3V, so the device needs to be reliable and versatile. In terms of functionality, nothing is missing. As for the price, I'm very surprised. I have used much more expensive devices so far, but I see no point in spending more money. The only potential downside is that at RS-485, RS-232, and TTL levels, there are a lot of connectors, so the box is a bit larger than individual RS-485 devices, but if you can live with the larger size (and enjoy the robust aluminum housing) we highly recommend this device.
