I was a bit surprised at how rough they were when I first took them out of the box. I expected them to be much softer. But after using and washing some of these, they softened a bit. We're trying to reduce the use of paper towels and napkins in my family, so I'm always on the lookout for good, functional napkins like these that can be used for a variety of tasks. I love the so-called "fish scale" design and think they're great for cleaning mirrors and other reflective surfaces. I also use them with some dish soap on my countertops and occasionally to dry dishes, although I have towels that I much prefer to use. In general, I think they're best for mirrors, cars, and dirty countertops (like when your bathroom counters get a little dirty). They're not too soft, but they get softer after spinning in the wash. I wash as usual with other towels and also dry.
