First Impression - Five Stars

One of my aquariums had a terrible squirrel outbreak that was very difficult to control. There are several articles on the internet as well as several YouTube videos that describe the problem and possible solutions. The most promising was installing a skimmer to catch the floating protein. Protein looks like sawdust floating on the surface of water; It quickly builds up on the aquarium pane along the waterline. Even after a thorough cleaning of the aquarium, the problem comes back quickly. Several fish in the aquarium died. The search for a skimmer began: Most skimmers are very expensive and require an external filter, which is also very expensive. Finding the Fluval Surface Skimmer was a real blessing. After modifying the mounted Penn Plax Cascade aquarium filter, it became possible to attach the skimmer to the filter inlet pipe using the flexible hose supplied with the skimmer. After installation, the skimmer immediately began removing protein particles. The protein accumulated during the lesson was removed with a paper towel. It was fun watching the protein grains caught by the skimmer. Now the water is crystal clear, no protein visible in the water. Time will tell if the solution is permanent and how the Fluval Surface Skimmer works, but first impressions are five stars.
