I think these sketchbooks are very handy for swatching, testing and mixing colors, trial marking before attaching a drawing to canvas, etc. They are also good for beginners to learn how Use the right paper when working with art supplies. When my granddaughter came to visit, she was very excited to try my watercolor pencils in this sketchbook, as well as regular watercolors and her own colored pencils. She loves art and I want to encourage her in any way I can so that she doesn't start her artistic "career” as a failure like me, so I'm only trying now that I'm in my 60's to make art. This sketchbook is sturdy enough and with a spiral binding it should hold up well under supervision and provide a good grouping of her work as she learns more. Coloring is one of her favorite things to do and I'm so glad I can help her with some supplies to spark her interest. I especially like to see the magic of watercolor pencils. While I know some things are meant for children of a certain age, age is not set in stone. I remember a father telling his daughter that she couldn't play a certain game because she wasn't old enough, and yet my boys played it long before they were that age and they played it a lot gladly. . I relate to many things including art. Technically she may be 'too young' but I liked the Norberg & Linden art supplies I received and felt they would work for her too and give her a good taste of REAL art supplies rather than the cheap ones that you buy in the big supermarkets .
