Bought for teams. Appears as a proper conference, boundary layer, surface microphone. Drawn in by the looks and the capacitively-muffled sound I expect to run silently, the highly visible reg/green light is a huge plus. Of all my expectations, only the indicator light was fine. mechanical alternative click: there is a loud pop at power-up, clipping the DC bias transient. This renders any mute on that mic useless. If you're at a conference, switching will annoy your colleagues. In addition, for the reasons detailed below, even the slightest touch will be heard, as if you slide your finger over your phone's microphone. The most important thing is the type of microphone, the construction and the sound quality: This is not a conference microphone, it is not a surface microphone and it is not a TARGET boundary layer microphone. I was misled by the appearance of the grille on three sides. This is similar to Polycom's speakerphone prompts. I'm expecting x3 mics hidden under the grille on a solid base plate. This microphone is an imitation of a conference boundary layer microphone. There is no grid. It's just texture on a hard surface that looks like a grill. There's just a tiny PZM mic that sits under the surface, just above the N. That tiny slot and the two pinholes on the side of it are all the "conference mic" needs to pick up sound. Additionally, the case's finish is eggshell thin (a touch bends it enough to be heard). The housing is an independent acoustic membrane with its own resonances. Due to the single-point PZM microphone located on and under the thin vibrating surface and three multi-path interference holes, this microphone has low sensitivity and uneven frequency response. Makes a very annoying noise. Even a few feet away, it sounds like a distant harsh reverberation. With increasing distance, it quickly becomes illegible. For proper operation of the Boundary Conference Microphone, it must be flush mounted to a heavy, large, non-vibrating surface. In actual conference microphones, the grille is mostly cosmetic and essentially resonant, and they usually have multiple pickups near the tabletop on a thick, flush plate. picks up sound no better than the cheapest condenser mic. You might be able to turn up the digital gain and the sound quality might be good enough for some, but this is definitely not a conference mic or what it sounds like.
