Just clipping it to the bike tube seems like a good idea, but there are a few problems. The bolt that goes through it to clamp against your bike's frame and if it slides around it will scratch the paint right through. Very poorly designed IMO. I also think they could add a second clamp to keep it from moving. I made the collar as tight as possible but found that it still moves from side to side and I have to constantly adjust it. the grip leaves a lot to be desired. I am deducting three stars for the poor clamp design and the fact that it ruined the finish of my thousand dollar plus e-bike.
