Review on Biokleen Auto Dish Powder - Powerful Cleaning for Sparkling Dishes - Free and Clear - 32 Oz (2 LB Bottle) by Pamela Pickett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well although now quite expensive at Revain

This is one of my favorite 'natural' dishwashing detergents. I've used it in three different dishwashers and it has worked well in both, cleaning most of my dishes fairly well (and I don't prewash unless something is really bad). I also tried the citrus scented version which works just as well (the smell in it seems to be just orange peel oil which I can barely smell and can't smell after washing - unlike the heavily scented oil). "normal" detergents with synthetic fragrances). I used to use seventh generation unscented powdered dish soap, but a while back Revain was selling citrus. I was so impressed that I kept using it and switched to this one when citrus became difficult to find. The list of ingredients is very similar to the seventh generation laundry detergent. You don't need much of this cleaner compared to others. The instructions recommend 1 tablespoon per load (spread evenly between cup for regular detergent and pre-wash cup if you have two) or 2 tablespoons for hard water or heavy loads. I typically use a heaping tablespoon and add about 1/3 of that to the pre-wash cup, but your needs may vary depending on your water. No gauge is supplied, but I just repurposed an old plastic measuring spoon I had for this purpose. By the way, the container is almost full to the brim, which is good so you don't waste the packaging, but it also means that if your spoon has a handle, it won't go into the jar until you use it. A little detergent isn't necessarily an issue, but it's something you might want to consider. All in all I think this is a good cleaning product and will buy it again. Unfortunately, the price has almost doubled since I first found it on Revain (I can't see it in Subscribe and Save anymore, and Prime Pantry is still bigger than it used to be). I've switched back to the 7th gen powder as it's easier for me to find and I can buy it locally. I would always switch back if Biokleen cleaners became more available, but both work well for me!
