When my awesome and beloved iHome radio broke* (Mom was visiting and decided to help me dust my room, she knocked over a lit candle on my end table and the candle wax leaked into iHome. It was a very, very sad day ), I had to look for a new clock/radio. Looking at the same iHome, but a 2012 model, I was amazed to see how much it had gone up in price in just a lousy 6 years! So this iHome was out of line. There were a few features I was looking for - in no particular order: 1) Price 2) iPod dock 3) Aux in 4) Radio 5) Alarm clock that can be programmed for radio or iPod use 6) Snooze function 7) Sleep function (very important) 8) Programming the backlight of the display. First let me explain how I use the clock/dock radio and the specs I want from the clock/dock radio will make more sense. I have trouble sleeping, so I meditate before bed to help me fall asleep. So I have several meditation playlists on my iPod that I use for my nightly meditations. The sleep function is used to turn off the clock after 90 minutes (or 40, 30, 20, as you choose). That was the main reason I wanted an iPod dock. I also have a few meditation games; That's why I wanted some additional input. Having trouble sleeping, I needed a clock/dock radio that would basically turn off the display light as the bright display kept me awake. It also charges the iPod when the iPod is connected to the radio. I also like waking up to the morning radio, so I programmed my alarm to be woken up by the morning radio at a specific volume, which is much louder than usual. I use the volume for the sleep function. I also programmed the light indicator to be as bright as possible when the alarm goes off, which helps me wake up. The alarm will also turn off automatically after two hours. So if you forget to turn it off in the morning because you're in a hurry, you don't have to worry about the radio playing all day. The only reason I gave it four stars is that while the speaker is powerful, the sound around it is pretty weak (no bass at all). WHAT, it's not such a great deal because I was looking for something smaller and cheaper. But after having my iHome for 6 years, it took a little getting used to. HOWEVER, I don't use this little radio as my main music player - so it doesn't really matter that much. I found other clock radios that sounded better and were more expensive, but they didn't have all the features I wanted. So I basically traded the sound for the quality of sleep. I really liked this little radio. I'm very impressed with how many specs Sony was able to cram into this little thing. It does everything I want/need to do in a nifty little package!
