Update: Credit card got an unrecoverable jam (was in the paper and went down the wrong slot, but that's no excuse - yeah, I know there's a separate place for that, let's say however that this item is clearly not meant to last forever as anyone can accidentally put an item in the wrong place without realizing like we did REMEMBER this is ADVERTISEMENT credit cards are not a problem , but that ruined it). Now this car just makes noise, and there is no way to get rid of the jam by shifting to reverse or forward. can't cut anything. Also, this thing can really destroy a maximum of 5-6 leaves at a time otherwise it will get stuck and we've tried that many times (they claim 14 LOL). This machine has another disadvantage. There is a hook or plastic on the door sticking straight out, which presumably is to prevent the machine from turning on unless the bin is pushed onto it (good idea, but wrong placement). The problem is that the hook tears all the garbage bags. Why use a grab bag? Keep papers and dust out of the way! What's more, the bin only holds about a foot of paper, so it fills up so quickly you'll spend a ridiculous amount of time changing bags. This car is not worth buying. Save money and buy another one (sorry I haven't found one to recommend yet). This machine runs for hours and you can easily put all kinds of paper, paperclips, staples and credit cards in it. 2-3 hours in a row at constant power did not overheat. However, there are some downsides to be aware of: 1) it's too short and you'll have to keep changing packs if you're doing a lot 2) it can't handle more than 5-6 sheets at a time (max 8 or so). and that is when they are thin) 3) produce an awful lot of dust 4) tend to jam at 8+ sheets (there is no specified requirement anywhere 14) In general if you are looking for a machine to shred a lot of paper, I would suggest a larger one (the Royal 1840M made a lot of people happy at $175) but if you don't want to spend money this one will do the job. Dust is not unique to this machine, just add a plastic bag. The biggest problem is that you have to separate the papers and you can't just tear 10-20 sheets at a time or they will get stuck. I've had dozens of jams with less than 10 sheets, as you have to keep in mind that some are thicker than others. I have to deduct a star because this machine just doesn't manage 14 sheets, not even close. I would avoid this machine and buy a more expensive one with a larger bin capacity and the ability to shred more paper at once. Yes it takes hours but you will share your papers for hours so the case doesn't get stuck which is a waste of time.
